A Message From Our President

The Boys & Girls Club of Albany is one of the best youth development organizations in our community.  For more than 50 years, the Club has offered youth a safe and positive place to become productive, caring and responsible citizens.

The Foundation focuses its support of the Boys & Girls Club of Albany and on five priority areas:

  • An after-school program that is accessible for all youth regardless of economic background;

  • Ensuring that graduating high-school students have every opportunity to pursue a secondary education of their choosing;

  • Access to dental services for uninsured children, ages 6-18 at no cost to their families;

  • Access to organized sports leagues for community youth grades K-8;

  • Life-enhancing programs that meet the needs and interest of our communities’ youth.

The Foundation is here to support young people, especially those who need us most, but we can’t do it without you! Thanks to the businesses and community members who support the Foundation, we’re able to provide experiences and opportunities for these youth to reach their full potential.

Our Club

Mission: The mission of the Boys & Girls Club is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.

History: The Albany Boys Club opened its doors on December 26, 1966. In 1979, girls began registering as members and the Albany Boys Club became the Boys & Girls Club of Albany. By 2018, Club membership was over 3,200 youth, with girls making up 44%. Currently, the average daily attendance during the school year is 656.

Legacy: Thanks to the Greater Albany School District, transportation is provided between each school to and the Club, ensuring every students has access to the after-school programs. The Club offers these students a safe and positive place to learn and grow under the guidance of trained professional staff. Club programs and activities are fun, life-enhancing, and provides hope and opportunity in the areas of art, education, technology, sports and recreations, career development, and leadership. The after-school program also offers a dinner program that serves over 400 meals daily.
The BGCA athletics program, offers baseball, softball, basketball, indoor soccer, track, and volleyball, while emphasizing teamwork, hard-work, and sportsmanship. Trained volunteer coaches put in thousands of hours each year on behalf of the children in our community.
The Dental Clinic screens students in the Greater Albany School District and identifies children needing urgent, or even routine, dental care. Despite changes to our nation's healthcare coverage for children, access to dental care remains an issue for families in our community. The BGCA bridges that gap and provides a dental home for those children with the help of local volunteers and community support in an effort to improve oral health in our area. In 2019, the Dental Clinic served about 400 students and provided over $120,000 of donated services.
